Thirst developed a new identity system for the Bartholomew County Public Library System (BCPL), around an existing archival symbol designed by John Squadra in 1967.
Tricia Gilson, the archivist of the Columbus Architectural Archives, shared historical documents of the icon, which included specific guidelines for its construction. Thirst drew a master icon using the provided guidelines and then developed a system around it. Page grids are built based on multiples of the icon. Type sizes follow simple proportional relationships. Within this system, there is plenty of room for creativity.
