Obama Presidential Library at Chicago Lakeside

Thirst conceived the structure, tone, packaging, and design of this 180-page proposal to place the Barack Obama Presidential Library at Chicago Lakeside. This planned cutting-edge urban development is to be located on the site of the former U. S. Steel South Works plant and is designed by SOM's Urban Design + Planning studio.

The Obama Legacy is presented as coming Full Circle in the same neighborhoods where the 44th President started his career in public service as a community organizer.

A 3" stainless steel ring sits on a custom linen clamshell box, suggesting the history of this former U. S. Steel plant.

Inside, a simple letterpress map highlights the central location of Lakeside to transit corridors around the Midwest.

Inside, the hardcover submission contains the ring of stars found on the Presidential Seal.

The submission opens with a visual overture, setting the stage for why Lakeside is the ideal location.

The overture concludes with a vision of the past…

…and SOM's vision for the future Lakeside development.
